MY MINIATURE CABINET

Small Dining Room
This room has a few of my favorite things purchased in Miniature shows around the world. The wall covering is textured wallpaper from a sample book which I then painted over. The floor is made with miniature roof shingles and painted. The table and side cabinet are very cheap doll’s house furniture items that I painted over to get a ‘Provincial’ feel. Once again I made all the books to reflect my interests and of course, the obligatory jar of Nutella in the scene! The last photo is the way the room was before I changed it.

MY MINIATURE CABINET

The Kitchen
This is a typical Italian kitchen with spaghetti boiling in the pot, the coffee percolator ready to go and the ‘pizzelle’ maker otherwise known as waffles in English. The calendar on the front of the fridge was made in 2009 when I first started the cabinet and has a picture of  ‘Il Castello Ducale di Crecchio’, the beautiful castle where my father was born in Crecchio, Abruzzo. A packet of fusilli pasta, Bertoli extra virgin olive oil, an Italian cookbook complete the scene. The tile above the fridge reads “Pace e Bene’ which means Peace and Love purchased in Assisi, Italy where St Francis preached a gospel of peace and love. These tiles can be found all over Assisi in all sizes. And no Italian kitchen would be complete without hanging garlic and Nutella! The last photo is before the change.

MY MINIATURE CABINET

The Laundry

There are lots of bits and pieces in this room which took me a long time to make and changes often when new miniatures are found! All the wall paneling and floor is made from miniature roof shingles which I cut and pasted and then painted to give a ‘brick’ effect. The ceiling beams are made with balsa wood. The washing machine is battery operated and vibrates when the button is pressed. It was originally a key ring. The sink makes running water noises. I have used gumnuts which is a native Australian plant and there is also a boomerang on the wall above a mini cross stitch I made one time with a miniature group I was involved in.

On the shelf there are many items from Italy including a miniature “Trullo” (second shelf),  which is a typical house in Alberobello, Puglia. I bought it from there on one of my travels and it is all hand made with the original stone. On the third shelf there is a “Conca Abruzzese” which was originally used by women in ancient times to collect water from the well. My father brought me this one back from Italy in 1975 when I was a little girl so it is one of my treasured miniatures. The salami is from the US! The last photo is what it looked like before I changed the room a few years ago.

...and of course, the Gigi monster making sure that everything is to her liking!

MY MINIATURE CABINET

The Bathroom
This bathroom was an ugly shade of brown before my mini house refurbishment. I found all the tiny shells on the beaches of Victoria and they come in the most amazing colors. I bought the bathroom scale at the Barcelona Miniature Show in 2016 as well as the bathroom candles. Once again I used a lot of old, broken jewelry including the sea horses around the mirror. They were from a charm bracelet. The flooring came from a sample wallpaper book and looks just like tiles.  I am not really happy with this bathroom and one day I am sure I will change it but it looks much better than the original.
